Hi guys, I'm new here, not sure where to introduce myself, so apologies if I'm not suppose to do it here.I have the xj750rh (south african model) and I'm in the process of fitting a sidecar and moving bars and controls over as I'm in a wheelchair.
My carbs are a total mess thanx to some idiot po, float arms broken, pilot screw o'rings and washers missing, diaphragms torn etc, etc.
I've heard a lot of bad things about the hitachi hc32's and from experiences with previous bikes with cv carbs, i just hate them. Does anyone know of any slide carbs that will fit these bikes even if it means changing/modifying the boots? The kawa z750/1000 seems to be pretty close.
    Any ideas?
    Thanx guys

    Hi diff33,
The Hitachi 32mm seem to be pretty solid carbs. I have been playing with the mikunis also and the the Hitachi seems to have less diaphragm problems as the body doesn't make them crimp up like the mikuni seems to.

In saying that, I did try some some 36mm mikunis where 35mm mikunis were supposed to be (rejetted and the whole bit) the 900 didn't run right till I put the 35mms back in.

I would definitely spend the time getting the hitachi's, that came with the bike, up and running. Yamaha seem to have fine tuned all this gear to work 'just right'!

Failing that look for a good set, second hand, to suit. as long as they are the same throat size you can always swap all your jets from the dodgy set too.

Yes I do have a pile of carbs parts now... damn that ebay.

Oh yeah and dont forget chacal from xj4ever has EVERYTHING to fix them old hitachis up and JBM industries do some groovy diaphragm replacements also.

    hey cds.
I can get another set of Hitachi's that's been rebuild already, but like I say, I prefer slide over cv carbs. I'm hoping someone might reply who have done such a conversion successfully before I spend money on carbs. by the way I bought the bike for about US$100 and the Hitachi carbs is gonna cost me more than twice that.

I did a round slide conversion with 2 vm34mm Mikuni's and custom intake manifolds. Took a while to get the intakes right, but the bike runs great now. Look at my build thread in my signature to see what I'm talking about. If you want to keep a 4 carb setup, I would look into the Kehien CR's.
Saw a custom build on TV like you're doing, looked great. Good luck with your build and post some pics.

Nice mod Orange, will definitely look into that. All depends on the cost though. Only income i have at the moment is a disability pension that works out to about us$150/month! But i will get there eventually. I've 'fixed' the diaphragms with liquid rubber, runs smooth, good throttle response but revs drop very slowly. Butterfly shafts seems ok, not sucking air however the butterflies on 2,3 and 4 don't seal all the way around.
Going to put the carbs on hold and finish the sidecar first so I can take it for a ride and see what the carbs are like. I'll start a build threat sometime and post pics.

I personally wouldn't bother trying to fit slide carbs, they won't fit properly....not enough room below the bowls. Just ask and you should get an answer. These carbs can be relativly easy to fix contrary to what most say, you just need to put the time in.
