    Hi,

I'm having fuel problems with my 650. I've thoroughly cleaned them around 3 times the past two months. At first it would only turn over when I sprayed it with starting fluid, but now it doesn't need it, not sure if there's some kind of residue from the starting fluid from before. Anyway, I've done valve clearances, bench synch, and wet set the floats doing the clear tube method.

To be honest, the clear tube method confuses the hell out of me. It always feels like my eyes are deceiving me. But from what I saw they were 3mm +- 1mm. If need be, I'll get a second opinion. When the bike warms up the RPMs idle at around 4k, pretty high. Am I running lean? Tomorrow I'm going to try to synch the carbs with a Carbtune and give a shot with my Colortune to see if it'll help with the bike performance.

Please take a look at my spark plugs and let me know what you think:

The pic with the shadow of a spark plug is from bottom to top 1& 2. The other is 3&4 bottom to top.

Man, it was so nice to do circles in my parking lot today, haha. I almost left this bike on the rode when I first got it two years ago when it died on me on the way home.

We need to see the ends of the plugs better, thats where the color is. Can't really see looking from the side.
The idle problem needs to be solved before trying to read thr plugs. Have you checked for vacuum leaks in the carb boots and throttle shaft seals?

Have you done any mods to your bike?

If you have already done the valves and sync'ed the carbs (a running sync) then you may simply have the idle adjustment too high. I initially made the mistake of adjusting the idle before the motor was fully warmed up. When it is fully warm try lowering the idle with the idle knob.

I have the same problem viewing the clear tube and finally set the floats by actually measuring them and then used the clear tube to verify that they were in spec. If you use a float height measuring tool and get the floats set properly, the clear tube measure should be very close and only small adjustments, if any, will be required. Note that if you have after-market float seats and/or needles, the float height may have to be adjusted because after-market needles can be longer than stock. Chacal can give you the correct stock needle length. I've also learned that the fuel level has a tremendous impact on fuel consumption, so it pays to get it as close to perfect as possible.
