Hello fellow xj people. I am new to this site, but it looks very helpful and inspiring from what i have seen so far. I scooped up a beat up 83 xj550 maxim two years ago for 400 bucks. Ive been working on creating a cafe racer for the last year or so..

I bought a pair of Shinko tires off ebay.. There pretty cheap in price, but I did read some good things about them.

Heres the bottom portion. 1/4 inch steel plate was used for the mount, welded it right to the swing arm.

wasnt sure if i needed to, but i welded some rod on top of the swingarm to stiffen it up.

looking solid. i think it needs a bit of stiffening. have you thought about bracing the swingarm and if so what made you decide against it?

Cool work so far. Did you lower the front forks? Do you have a pic of the brakeside rear set? I really dig where this is going.

    Thanks for eveyones support! :D

Venlis: I was considering on supporting the mount a bit more with some steel rod, I think those welds will hold up meanwhile. I did also look into bracing the mount directly to the swing arm like the famous blue cafe haha, but I ran into some clearance issues with the chain.. I had some 1/4 steel plate laying around so i decided to go off and try something new.. why not

CJMaxim: thanks, I did lower the fronts about an inch, I'll probably mess around with the height a little more once i get it going.
I'll post some more pictures soon!

angle of the swinging arm now looks quite steep, will you have to make any mods to the chain guide, to prevent the chain rubbing on the top of the swinging arm.
    stu :?
