New old bike, XJ900 naked always wanted one although as a stocker it should be red[burgundy?] and black.
Amazing how much different in feel between my 2 900's the naked feels so much more nimble and light in comparison to the faired version.
Did originally buy it as a parts bike, sight unseen on E-bay $765 but after riding it home[200k] it feels a lot stronger than my other 900, doesn't burn oil and brakes like a GP bike in comparison to it's sister.Brand new front master cylinder and reciepts for over a 1k worth of work 2 weeks ago.
Red,white and blue paint job is because he bought a new tank from Yamaha Australia 2 years ago first one they gave him was damaged so the last one they had in the country was Red,white and blue so he painted the rest to match.Fair bit of aluminium corrosion, but thats easy to fix, plastics are pretty poor upon close inspection unfortunately, but I'm very, very happy with my purchase.
Oh did I say it goes HARD.

    Nice Bargain.
I was watching it but it was a bit too far away for me to buy. I wish I could find a deal like that around here.

I just have to ask about that rock by the bike. There is a plaque by it. What does it say.

Ah a man with an eye for detail, I read it a few years ago the gist of it was that this sculpture was part of the artwork that happened because of a govt grant to indigenous artists, sorry I cant remember the story the sculpture represents but if you have a look the 'rock' is actually a snake, python I'm guessing. If your interested enough it's one of my regular stops I'll take a pic.
Nice to meet another plaque reader,I drive the wife and kids nuts read every damn plaque I see.I'm one of those strange people who like museums to.

I'm curious......could you pm me and let me know what the first six digits of the vin are? JYA---? I run the xj900rk seca database and would like to check something.

Also, could you give us a pic of the guages? They aren't the originals, but would like to see what was put on since the fairing isn't there now.

Last, picky detail.......you're missing the speedo cable holder that attaches to the hole at the back lower left side of the front fender.

Gauges are original . The naked version of the xj900 (1985 ) used similiar gauges to the xj650H ( if not the same units ).It also did away with the anti-dive forks,as did later models of the xj900F. Round headlight is also standard. They were more common in a maroon colour. I contacted this guy to see why he had an xj900R colour scheme on an 1985 xj900N.( see gunnas explanation) Glad to see it went to a fellow member.
    cheers ,Murray

If you see anymore cheap down this way please point them out to me. :D
The last one I was watching down this way sold for over $1300 and had a crook gearbox. Currently there is another one in the area but they want at least $1900 for it.

Not as bad as the poor delusional soul on ebay Oz who is asking $6500 for a very badly chopped Xj650 turbo.( no bids so far , funny about that ) And I agree, all the cheap 900,s are not within cooee of Sydney,
    Cheers,Murray

I doubt if I'll need to, Trokel, gotta remember I've been keeping an eye out for a few years, and as far as I can tell Bike stuff in general seems to be more seasonal down south than it is up here. And coming into the warmer weather so for the next few months there will be more people looking.
But you might be right all the bargains when your looking seem to be miles away.
HF happy to give you the numbers but like Murray said it is original.Would of looked like this
    [IMG]
I have a sidecover that matches that colour in my assorted spares and a set of instruments off a naked one the same year
Yes I know about the speedo cable holder, speedo stopped working halfway home

I saw that one as well and it reminded me of that classic Aussie film - The Castle.
    Tell him he's dreaming

    I wish.
The motor and other parts that I bought for mine set me back about 1K. They were cheap to begin with but obviously they were quite sort after because the price skyrocketed as the auction came to a close.

Found that one on Gumtree , guy was going OS and needed to get rid of it quiclkly, had an old cb 750 honda as well , not K series though, the twin cam one . I could have got that for $200 as well ,if I,d had room in the trailer. I,m kicking myself that I didn,t buy it and try to shoehorn it in.
