    Hey there again.
i have a question for all you xj wizzards out there.
I have been told that there is a much cheaper way of replacing the tci than going with a stock or aftermarket unit. what I am wondering is if any one on this site has heard od swapping the original tci unit with an hei unit from an 80's to 90's gm four cyl car. I do know that it will limit rpm to around 10 grand, or at least so I have been told. could anyone here shed light on this subject? Also is there anyone here that either has or know of anyone who does have a wiring diagram to accomplish this conversion?

The diagram is from somebody on a gpz550 fourm.
I'll look for the link after work.

That option will get you ignition but you will not have any kind of ignition advance. Using the GM modules you will need to fab some sort of machanical ignition advance for it to work and preform like OEM.

advance was another issue I was wondering about. that brings up a good point. are tere any other conversions out there that would be more of a permanent fix, retain full functionality and still remain much less costly than a used stock or aftermarket repro? how does the original setup deal with the advance issue?

I believe the OEM unit has the advance curves pre-programmed as a function of RPMs.
