I started pulling this rough 82 Seca 550 apart. I purchased it because it has a lot of neat parts that I wanted for my nice 81 Seca. I'm putting my stock parts on it and then I'm selling it.

So I finally got into swapping parts after having it a few years. Little did I know that it has 32mm carbs. Pulled the valve cover and it has some pretty big cams and a ported head. Pulled the head and measured the pistons at 60mm. Anyone know who made the 60mm pistons for an XJ550?

no but I would be interested in finding out more. My XJ550RJ has almost 40K miles on it and if I decide to rebuild the engine some time might consider such an upgrade

Another thing, Is the paint original ? Are these the original sidecover, tank and behind seat decals ? I'm having a real hard time finding the decals for my red XJ.

XJ600 pistons fit straight in and start at 58.5mm so maybe they are oversize 600 pistons, are they cast or forged?

It may even be a 600 head, cams and carbs

Any idea what the swingarm is out of or what make it is?

Might be an FZ600 motor transplanted into the bike, or at least the top end.

Yes, original paint. All decals are original.

I don't think anyone makes the 82 decals like they do for the 81.

    The swingarm is a Cal-Fab.

The head still has YICS. Did the FJ600 have YICS?

I don't know if the pistons are forged or cast.

The ignitor is from an FJ600.

Still, I don't think the FZ600 had YICS.

The FZ600 was basically the same motor at the XJ550. Differences were the cams, piston size. The engine was black. It is easy enough to remove the paint. I have run many FZ600 engine parts on my 550.

I don't think any of the 600 motors had YICS

I'm assumming those swingarms are a bit rare, I'd be keen on something like that for my 550 project

I did see a 60mm kit on a local auction site a couple of years ago made by Moriwaki (I think)

    Thanks, Len.

Maybe the cams, although I have a feeling they are Yoshimura.

    No 600 motors had YICS.

    The Cal-Fab is very rare.

If the pistons are Moriwaki, most likley they are 2 ring.

Wiseco made a 60mm head gasket. They could be Wiseco pistons.

The front brakes have me intrigued. Those are Seca 550 wheels, unique to the model AFAIK. It has 550-style calipers, so I'm doubting a full-on front end transplant. PO must have tracked down a Euro 550 LH fork leg.

Wiesco back in the 1980's made a Big Bore kit that used 60mm pistons. I had a set in my 1982 back then and loved them. Wish they still made the kit, I would like to have one for my current project.

Wiesco made me a set in the mid 90's so I know it's doable. I have an extra set of rings for one piston if you need it. Its a 652 cc big bore kit for the FZ/FJ 600 motor
