Friend is looking into picking this up:

    http://austin.craigslist.org/mcy/3311921274.html

For his wife to learn to ride on.

Anyone have comments? I don't know anything but theory on bikes where you have to manually deal with things like timing and points, and have no personal experience with old little CB's. Sounds like fun to me though.

Thought I'd solicit advice here from wiser minds than myself. Friend wants me to go look at it and decide on it--says if I approve, he'll ask me to buy it and send me money.

    Yay? Nay?

Manual points, timing, etc. require more maintenance. The positive side is that when they go bad it's a few bucks for a point set instead of $$$ for something like a TCI.

They're pretty easy to work on. Carburetors come out separately and easily. Valves are lashed with an adjustable tappet.

Front brakes are PITA. Caliper prone to sticking because the piston gathers dirt.

$900 seems steep for one that doesn't run.

No pictures of left side of motorcycle :?

If it were in real good, running, and inspected/insured and on the road you could get away with that. But for a non-running bike, way too high. I don't care if he says 'it must be something minor from sitting" or not. As far as you know, it could be "something MAJOR from sitting'.

    Proceed with caution.
