    Hi Guys,

I am looking to purchase either a XJ 650 (round headlight) or 750 (rectangular headlight).
Is anyone interested to sell me one?

The sellers location does not matter to me (either within USA or any other country too).
I am outside of the US, and plan to import it in my country.
Logistics will be arranged for by my agent.
My agent will pay cash, arrange for pickup and transportation on my behalf.
I will sign the Bill of Sale too.

    Looking forward to some responses.
Also let me know if one your contacts or someone from vicinity or city is selling one.

You can also email me on akaliwala AT gmail . com

    Akbar.

    Guys I am from India.
And there is nothing like spamming or cheating here.

I got in touch with some guys on craiglist who would not accept wire transfers or paypal.
They insisted on cash. So this is my way of paying cash. I would wire transfer it to him so that he can pay in cash to prospective seller.
Can you think of some other? I can do that too.

Plus the logistics agent also needs to pack it and send it via sea. Hence I will be using him.
I can accept your shipping guys too.

I love the XJ bikes, especially their sound and have been in awe since I was a kid. Now is the time I can afford ; )

@MN-Maxim and Ted, I really dont understand the reason for such attacks.
If there are people who have been bluffed earlier, then maybe they have overlooked something and trusted blindly.

    Well I am serious.

A guy in my neighborhood had a red 650 (round headlights). Thats my love.
He wrecked it. Cant buy from him.

Theres one guy selling a 750 Seca. Speaking to him, lets see what comes up. I will take advice of guys here regarding what should be checked before buy and also the maintenance tips.

India has not more than 3/5 XJ bikes.
    Hence need this forum.

Havent come across a good and clean one craiglist. Theres always some or the other fault.
Hope something good comes my way.

All right even if you could pay cash somehow from another country and actually have someone here in the states that would be willing to box up one of these bikes. The cost of doing all of that would be super expensive, not to mention going through customs and such. You possibly could end up spending 2k usd and for what a neglected 30 year old bike that needs a ton of work?
More power to you if you can pull it off. Why don't you PM fintip. He is selling his bike. It made it all the way down into Mexico and back to Texas. Maybe you can work a deal out with him. 81 650 Maxim just needs some clean up and a paint job.

@MN-Maxim: Thank you for your view point. Really appreciate it.

I have seen a few Ducati imports at the port here. They are neatly packaged in a steel cubicle.
Probably a professional will be able to do it for me.
$2000 is my budget all inclusive.
India has an import duty of 100%.
SO for a $500 bike, I am paying $500 as import fee.
I am then left with $1000 for packaging+shipping. Shipping should not take more than $200.

But getting a good bike is very important for me.
Like you mentioned, I dont want a bike which requires lots of work to be done.
A good mechanic in India charge me a premium for an 'imported' bike and importing parts too will become expensive.

So many sellers are claiming that their bike does not require any mechanical work and that they were in running condition until they put it away in storage.
Do you think it could be so? I can send you their craiglist links .

I want Seca. Maxims will not work for me.

Realistically if you are looking for a Seca 650 or 750 that has been well kept and updated with all new brakes, tires and carb work done, your budget of $500 is going to be pretty light. You should expect to pay at least three times that or more.

I think that $1800 included crating.

I know that's the shipping and crating charge. My point is it worth all that. Maybe in India people have more money to spend than we do. Sure you don't want a maxim?

It's a question of how bad he wants it. When I posted elsewhere about how nice it would be to have an XJR, someone told me to do it the easy way and just buy one in Japan. Apparently, to that guy it's no big deal.

Well, he could pay $500, but for that he is guaranteed to get something like what I got.

Kaliwala, for an idea of what I got have a look here: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/p=333624.html

I doubt that. What I am fairly sure of is that they have a vastly different motorcycle market than we do. According to what I've read it's mostly smaller Hondas and Yamahas, around 125-250cc, or copies of the same, either locally made or Chinese. 400cc and 500cc Enfields are considered big bikes. Anything over 500 is fairly rare.

Me? If the Seca doesn't pan out I might go that way... :D I'm enjoying the heck out of that XS, which is Maxim's daddy.

Sorry for missing out on the discussion.
I didnt get mails that newer comments were added.

I have got in touch with a seller in India.
Attached is a pic for your reference.

    How does this look?
I will be visiting the owner next Saturday.

What should I check for when I see the bike?
Would you guys recommend that I ride it for a few miles?

I was initially hell-bent on the 650 with round headlights.
I compromised that and accepted the 750 with rectangular headlights.
Looks like I will have to compromise further and go for Maxim. Hehehe.
On a serious note, I dont like the shape of the Maxim. Its not exactly a cruiser, but the handle-bars makes one feel that way.
It shares the same engine as the Seca (pls correct if I am wrong), yet has a single disk brake at the front.

    Off-topic:
I came across a guy in the US who posted an ad for the 650 but without the photo.
When I asked him to send me the photo of HIS bike, he asked me to google the images and see the 'silver and blue' bike.
I told him that I knew the search feature in google, and that I wanted to see HIS bike and not someone elses bike. They guy flatly refused. :s
My search itself is not going so easy.

Indian authorities are not pleased if one imports a bike this way.
Assembled bikes attract 100% duty and knocked down units attract 30%.

There have been a lot of incidences of people bringing in knocked down new bikes, paying 30% duty and then assembling it locally. This was found out by the government and they cracked the whip. And since then importing itself has become a real problem, let alone bringing in parts.
Only the government has the right to steal. :)

So that option doesnt really exist.
Plus finding a really skilled mechanic in India for the big bikes is another task in itself.

The key is just learning to work on the bike yourself. :)

And thanks for the plug, MN. Whether he wanted it or not, I just sold mine--got the full 1500 I was asking within 24 hours. Will be updating that thread soon.

Glad to hear you sold your bike fintip. This fellow would have been a good buyer for your bike. Think of the story you could have told bike when to Mexico and when I got home it went to India.
OK Akallwala here is a deal for you. Send me a brand new XJR1300 in the factory crate and I'll overhaul a 650 Seca for you and it will be a turn key bike. Or I'll send you 3 82 750 Maxims that all have less than 15k on the odometers, two of which have less than 10k.
I'll need the certificate of origin for the XJR, if that works let me know.

@MN Maxim: You are one tough cookie.

Maxims dont work for me. Theres something not right about the way it looks. Purely my opinion.

An 82 650 in exchange for a brand new XJR1300? That will be some deal. Hehehe.
    I'll pass.

On a serious note, did you see the pics I posted on this thread?
How does it look? And what should I be checking?
Please pray that this materializes. 8)

Oh I wish I could own something like that.
Seems you havent read my earlier posts regarding bike scenario in India.

We only get 150cc replicas of the bikes you have. So we have 150cc replicas of R1, FZ1, CBR and the likes.

Major manufacturers only have one big model in litre capacities, no 750cc/600cc/400cc.
    Yamaha offers R1 and FZ1
    Kawasaki offer ZX-10R
    Honda offers Fireblade.
Ducati offers its typical 'neither here nor there bikes'. 850cc, 1200cc.
    Suzuki offers Gixxer 1000cc.
And here the prices are 150% of yours.
So the R1 is $20,000 here.

No fancy cafe racers, retro bikes, cruisers, and the likes.

The deal was for me to "overhaul" a 650 Seca for you. I guess you don't have any idea what that involves.

    Better now?

If I were to spend that much money, would I rather not go for a clean and brand new R1/CBR/GSXR/Ninja here in India?

    akaliwala,

hello. i understand wanting a bike not many have and or is unique to on the road bikes. i'm sure if we could get the xjr in that seca and a maxim version here in the states it would turn heads. i also think we'd have to have a full time security team to try to prevent these bikes from being stolen. question...once you get your xj, how do you plan on preventing it from being stolen?

Bike theft is common here, but it also depends on neighborhood and the security in the apartment complexes.
    No worries for me really.
In our locality, I havent come across any vehicle being stolen in the last 15 years or so.
