Hey guys, havnt updated my sig yet to have my bike info so ill post it here for now.

    I ride a 1982 yamaha maxim xj 650

I am looking for re-do my front end and a mechanic buddy of mine who owns his own shop was suggesting i swap out the stock 41kg springs for a pair of 80kg ones to improve the ride.

Does anyone have any experience doing something like this?

If not any feedback on it is appreciated since i dont want to spend all my time wrenching for a shitty ride in the end.

    Much a appreciated

    -thanks homies

Fork springs are a common upgrade on these bikes. Contact Chacal here at XJ4ever & he'll hook you up with what you need.

There are variables involved, such as the bikes weight, your weight, ect, to achieve optimum performance from your forks. Send a message to Chacal (Len). I'm sure he can suggest what springs are best for you.

seems to me that would give you an awfully stiff front end. I put progressives in mine and love them. progressive part number 11-1106 you can get them for around $75

300+ with gear I have the springs I listed up front, my brother is around 200ish and likes them too. They are what most people on this site use and I know there are some closer to your weight range running them with good results. I also run the heavy duty progressive shocks in the back (on the second preload notch) rides perfect for me, but they are too stiff for my brother at 200lb so if your doing the back end too go with regular duty unless you ride with a passenger a lot.

yeah, progressives are the way to go.

find the part number you need here:

and then find them cheaper elsewhere online. I bought mine through jc motors.

    http://www.jcmotors.com/

real great service and fast shipping. also the lowest price on the net I could find, came to around 76$ shipped.
