New To XJ's

    Hello I just got a 84 xj750 seca, would like to ask some questions please?

    First off the only prob i found with me bike is the shifter leaver, it feals very loose, and it looks like its hitting the engine chasing in front of it. is there anyway to change that?

    what i want to do is make this bike into a pro street bike. anyone have any ideas?!!!!!!

    I want to get reed of all the original gauges and computer warning thing, which dont work anyways, and get aftermarket gauges. only prob is what to do with all the left over wires after i get reed of the old gauges LOL. I like to do a foward foot control if anyone has any ideas

    also does any know how to get the side stand warning light to stay off something is with the switch.

    one more thing anyone know were to get a wiring diagram for this bike?

    Welcome to you Darth.
    First thing you need for your bike is a maintenance manual (Haynes, >$20 USD is a suggestion). It will help you nail down all of the little loose ends that you seem to have your hands full of right now.
    You can most likely find the answers to almost all of your questions in our Search function on the left side of the page.
    Your shifting lever needs to be tightened up or it will nail the engine case and eat a groove in it. If tightening the 10mm bolt on it doesn't get it tight, it may need to be replaced. Be prepared, the Seca linkage isn't cheap. Shop around, Flea-Bay can be useful.
    As for your instruments, easy day. Get into our links and see what is out there. You can pull and sell your gauges to help offset the cost of the new ones (I may be back in the market for a set shortly, Spin buddy, where are you???).
    Wiring can be a royal pain but with a little planning, you can pull off a clean-up job rather easily.
    Forward foot controls have so far been an individual effort with a few very nice examples shown in the Gallery.
    The warning light for your stand is easily bypassed but if not done correctly, tends to muck up the safety interlock system. I would wait until you replace the gauges and not worry about it.

    thanks for the reply!!!!! i tried to ajust the shift rod, but wiether i put it more one side to the other it still looks like it s hitting, maybe the shift pedal arm needs ajusted?

    Most likely the pivot joint is worn from lack of lubrication/attention. It is possible that it is way out of adjustment and could be brought back into line with a little tweak.

    Ah yes, here it is.
    Please turn to page 102 in you hymnal (the Haynes one folks), and rise to sing "We Shall Overcome".
    Figure 1.27 shows the complete break down of the assembly, it could be that the Pivot Shaft (#16), or the Gearchange Lever (#12) have been worn/wallowed out. This would allow slop into the mechanism.
    Have you checked for washers under the E-clips securing the shafts?
    How secure is the pivot shaft?
    Sadly, the Haynes does not offer a whole lot on the topic of shifting linkage alignment, so your kinda on your own there (strong endorsement for purchasing a factory manual). It is not terribly complicated (though there are more parts there than you can shake a stick at), adjustment is simply loosening the two adjuster locknuts, turn the adjuster until the correct position (this is where it is comfortable for you) is attained and retighten the locknuts.
