hello, just found your site and got around to posting on it. i have found so much info and ideas on here i figured i would contribute something. lol

i bought this bike from my tow yard for 120 bucks. faded black paint and horrible wiring and car fog lights for headlights and no tail lights! and bent handlebars and bent front wheel and missing or stolen front brakes. so after all that was replaced,repaired,re-wired,and kinda re-painted....i have this...i want a set of small apes for it but i need to find an extended clutch cable and longer brake lines...[IMG]

any ideas or suggestions? my next thing is getting either chrome or polished hardware and painting the engine black...

this has been kinda my inspiration bike...

The seat looks a little hard for my backside, but I love the all black look.

That hard tail looks good, just remember that they can be hard on your tail. The peanut tank on a XJ leaves so much open area between the motor and tank. They look better sitting lower, but to get that look you have to mod the backbone or the bottom of the tank(which results in less fuel cap.).

Also, I would keep your present exhaust over the one in the pictured bike. Too loud and will result in many side of the road talks with the cops.

Badass bobber dude! As far as the cables go; lowbrow.com has a cool "how-to" on making custom length cables for your bike. In fact they have a lot of awesome how-to's on that site. I would think some z bars would look tight on that ride.

wow. thanks for all the input guys! it runs perfect. i ride it everyday to and from work. and yea you prob cant even tell but i lowered the front of the tank about an inch and he had the rear of the tank propped up with some pipe clamps. lol maybe to get more fuel. it was horrible. but from all the other tanks i have seen, this sportster tank is my favorite for this bike.

and your right....that seat is next on the list. any long rides really start to take their toll. it sucks. and those are real shocks in the back, but i think they were originally on some massively heavy harley because the rear hardly flexes at all. but i like the look. so I'm going to look into similar shocks that actually have travel. obviously get that horrible dent out of the tank and put a real paint job on it. but for now. Ive already gotten my money out of it. i paid around 100 bucks for the bike and put another 150 in parts, oil change, plugs, head light, tail light, handlebars, adjust timing chain tension to stop the rattle. rather than lowering the front of the tank, im just going to re weld the petcock down to the bottom. right now i can only put 6 bucks in gas in at a time. but even that lasts a very long time.

and they don't mess with you for exhaust down here in florida.

and i was thinking z-bars too. just haven't found a pair that i have really liked yet. plus like i said i need to get some extended cables and lines.

    thanks again everyone!

Don't locate the petcock at the very bottom, allow a bit of room for sediment or other crud to have some place to go. When you do relocate it, make sure to put an inline filter in there someplace as reworking the tank could/will stir up any crud already there.

good thinking. thank you sir. and there is an inline filter on it now. it does look fairly old so i was planning on changing it whenever i finished welding it.
