Just took my 1981 xj650 to the shop and the guy told me that the floaters with my bike sucks in gas causing it to expand that i need new floaters. Yamaha doesnt make the part anymore does anyone know an after market one i can use or a way to find a replacement?

    Ummm...

Perhaps a bit more detail might be in order.

The only thing I can think of offhand on the bike that would "float" would be the floats in the carbs... and those rarely break. They certainly wouldn't "suck in gas" or "cause it to expand".

Either I'm not understanding something correctly or this shop you've gone to is starting to sound rather shady.

The shop lied. The floats (not "floaters") are solid blocks of plastic.

More likely they didn't know how to correctly set the float levels.

If you truly need parts, get in touch with member chacal, proprietor of XJ4Ever (logo/link in site banner, upper right.)

But like I said, I highly doubt the floats need to be replaced. That's a common BS excuse when a shop has no clue.

Only Floaters I know of are the occasional corpse Popping up on the banks of The Lewis or Columbia river around here.

Sound's like the shop didn't know how to set Float level's and or you might need new Float needle valves and seat's.

Most likely though Float level's need adjustment there are some good walk through's on this site on how to do that yourself. Take your time be patient.
