I'm looking to get a dedicated jack for my '94 600 Seca II, it doesn't have a center stand. Found this jack at a local store but I am curious if there is anything I need to consider before I pick one up. It looks like it would be resting on the exhaust on the diagram is that a concern?

    Thanks

You don't want to lift with the exhaust. Even if you don't damage the pipe/collector the thing will not be stable. This problem is the sole reason I don't have a jack like that in my shop.

What I suggest you do is fabricate a cradle to go between the jack and the motorcycle that reaches around the exhaust. Of course the cradle needs to be short enough the cradle and jack will fit under the motorcycle. It might be a recreational impossibility.

Your best option for a stable lifting stand is something like this.

    Exactly.

Except you can get a much nicer one for the same amount of money. That stand, and similar stands, require installation of a set of "spools" in the ends of the rear axle for the stand to hook onto. Very common with sportbikes.

There ARE alternatives; although not quite as inexpensive, and that's a stand made to lift on the swingarm: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14 ... C_ID=10010

    Or a "universal" type: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14 ... Stand.aspx

In case you can't install spools.

Great thanks! I think you're right, probably easiest just to go with the stands.
