Backfired and vapor locked, thinking maybe when it ran on two cylinders with
stock ignitor I overlooked carb adjustments, floats syncing etc. Also jetting? Running wide open(4-2 straight,no air filter) at 9000 ft altitude. I'm sure if my bank account was up to spec it could be easy but.. IS THERE AN ELECTRONIC REASON (OR OTHERWISE MECHANICAL) REASON FOR THIS NOT TO WORK? I understand the pick up coils have signifigant differences in size ie rotation,,timing? ohms for the poor please

If you mean TCI - ignition module,
You're going down a dead-end street with that.
You might make it work, but the dwell, advance curve, OHM needs would be all wrong,

Get to E-Bay and start watching auctions for the right part.

Props on building a Frankenbike, but keep the whole ignition XJ550 correct.
