After putting in a bunch of work into the 750 and the 550, I am realizing I am feeling more interested in the 550.

I'm wondering if I shouldn't concentrate on it more and sell the 750.

What do you think I could realistically get for it? Valves clearanced, carbs cleaned and rebuilt with new seals and stainless screws, brakes rebuilt front and rear, stainless braided hoses, fusebox replaced. It's a vac synch and a mixture tune away from being a rider.

If I were to choose one model over the other I would take the 550. I haven't owned either but ridden both. Just my thoughts. :D

Its all about what you feel comfortable on. Ride them both and see which one fits you the best.

Sad thing is, if you haven't really gotten much use out of the 750, and it's not in perfect cosmetic condition, you won't get what you put in. If you rode it a bunch and just tire of it, then it won't hurt so much money-wise. These things are really worth more in parts than whole.

You can always concentrate more on the 550, and just dabble in the 750. If something goes wrong on the 550 and needs to be down for maintenance during prime riding season, you'll have a back-up :D

JP you should get the 750 up and running and give it a good road test and compare the two. Besides I would like to see it when you have time in the spring to stop by.

Bigger is better! Nah, just kidding, even scooters are a lot of fun. But me, I love my 750. If I gave it up, it'd be for an 1100 or something. But if tossing it through corners is your main thing, 550 is probably better. But there ain't no replacement for displacement;)

Because of the seat contour and seat/peg/bar relationship, the 550 Seca is actually "roomier" than the 750 Seca for a solo rider.

    keep both?!

I currently have a 750 max and have been on the lookout for a 550 seca

Got a call yesterday from a guy who has had one sitting in his garage for a couple years and now that he's moving wouldn't mind selling it....

Hopefully all goes well and it will become mine!

He also has a 750 seca that he rides now, and i think ill be able to barter a lower price in agreement to do his valve clearances on that bike :D

I think this is really a combination of frustration talking (even after all the right things done it still isn't running right) and the fact that I was offered to trade it in on an FJ that does not need any immediate work...

ANY motorcycle over 10 years old probably needs immediate work on something. Don't get used-car syndrome because it's not thirty years old. Actually, anything over SIX years old means you have to be vigilant.

Any used car I ever bought needed work. :) Buying broken gets them cheaper. When I bought my current truck it had no brakes and exhaust rotted completely off. :)

I realize it will need work. Just not right away, since it runs and drives. I really liked that FJ, but four bikes might be a bit much. OTOH, I could get it on layaway and not see until next season anyway.

See what you did? I am seriously considering a fourth bike now. You guys are supposed to be a support group, not enablers for the addiction. Right? :D

Wow, considering your 4th bike? I'm bringing home my 19th on wednesday, and another guy who lives about 1.5 hrs from me is looking at his 49th or so..... 4 ain't nothing. You're not addicted--you're just dabbling with the recreational stuff. LOL

Get it, and get on it!

It's a 550 Seca. You can travel on them; although I tend to stay off the Interstates, but not because of the bike.

I don't know how comfortable long distances would be on a 550 Max though, they're kinda cramped by comparison.
