Hello all. I hope you all got to spend some needed time off of work and enjoy your families and hopefully even the bikes a bit. I must just throw out a public thank you for my gratitude.

A few months back I posted a "so you're gonna make me a mechanic after all" thread and was terrified. After taking a pay cut at work I realized my bike needed $900.00 in work and I couldn't afford it so I dove in. I completed the whole job myself for 1/3 the quoted price. I'd never done anything other than changing the oil on a car and even that was with help from my dad.

I have now rebuilt both calipers, rebuild front forks, swapped out to stainless steel brake lines, rebuilt my master cylinder, flushed/repaired my coolant system, and learned so much.

I regularly reference you guys to friends on a regular basis my girlfriend even knows who I am talking about with several of you guys lol!

Also huge thanks to Chacal for his invaluable advice and help. I won't buy my parts from anywhere else.

If anyone needs any help with similar work on a Maxim X I am no expert but I can gladly explain what I did and how.

Nice to hear a success story. More than a few people have come on here and asked for help and could not complete what they started. Glad that the forum could help you through it.

    Cheers.

The site is called "XJBikes" only because "noob_questions" was taken. But really, that's the whole point. I wouldn't waste my time on a forum where you could only ask "intelligent" questions, whatever those might be :)

    Ryan,

See?!?!?! We DID make a mechanic out of you!

You should be proud of what you've accomplished. We're proud of you. Keep up the good work, and keep slowly going through your bike and upgrading, cleaning, polishing, etc...... and you'll end up with a stunning bike.

Thank you Dave! It means a bunch. You were one of the guys who helped me a ton. I am honestly proud it feels great to own something like this and know I rebuild it with my hands. I am officially hooked not just on the riding but on the building side of it too. Cosmetics will be next.

Look at that, now you're not only a mechanic......you're a real biker, too. :)
