Finally got it running smooth so I took it for a little test drive up and down the driveway a few times. But when I put it in 1st and release the clutch it dies. Only way to keep it running is to give it throttle but it takes quite a bit, like enough to make me think I'm about to pop a wheelie. But it never does and after stuttering it goes. I thought that might be normal but then when I brake and come to a stop it dies also. Am using only back brakes as my caliper is in the middle of a rebuild, don't know if that helps.

Are you saying you're running without ANY front brakes?

    You're asking for death....

It sounds like your rears may be dragging. Does the rear spin freely when on the center stand?

You WILL have to have some throttle to get going, say 1500-2k rpm

Well the bike has never seen the road since ive had it, only the 2nd time ive ridden it just on the driveway. And the front brakes will be put on as soon as the rebuild is done, didn't work at all when I got it. And it came without the centerstand so I'm not sure.

    QUIT TRYING TO RIDE IT.

You've got a LONG way to go yet.

    Carbs cleaned?

    Float levels wet-set?

    Valve clearances in spec?

    Vacuum sync?

Finish the brake OVERHAUL which means master cylinder, new lines, etc.

Have you had the rear brake apart to check for delamination?

    Fix the fusebox yet?

    Install an inline fuel filter?

It's not going to run right until it's done right. Until then you can expect all sorts of odd symptoms if you try to ride it; let alone the fact that it's DANGEROUS.

Yes Carbs cleaned, rebuilt, wet set, new fusebox. That's why I was testing it.

    nb91,

Do everything BF is recommending "FIRST". I repeat...COMPLETE ALL THE NECESSARY MAINTENANCE TO MAKE YOUR BIKE SAFE!!! Because, if what I'm about to suggest gets your bike running and you continue to ride it, like I did, you'll be asking for serious trouble (I got lucky). Once you get it running you will be able to zero out your travel mileage on your speedo at fill-ups to give you a mpg reading. If I try to run my bike with the switch in the "ON" position when it's time for me to go to "reserve" my bike will act like what you're saying here. I switch to "prime" to fill the bowls, switch to "reserve" and Vaaaaaaarooooom. I remember reading in another thread about people bringing their bikes to BF's shop complaining about them not running and BF putting gas in them and "Vaaarooom". Moral...Got Gas? Hope this helps

    Gary
