    Hi fitz,

i think they may be for 78-81 xs400 sohc...
mostly the heritage special, special II and the sort...

the 81 - 83 Maxim and Seca xs400's don't have any down tubes from the neck...the engine is suspended from the valvle cover head assembly and bolted in the back near the swing arm...

i have no clue where i would mount these on my bike... if i was inclined to go cafe style...

The XS400 Maxim, and the XS400 Seca, yes. However, the XJ400Maxim is still an inline 4, and I believe it had a cradle frame as the rest of the maxims.

Now, my understanding, also, is that the true xj400 maxim, the inline 4 one, was a japanese market only bike, and some of the 2-cyl bikes were called the maxim in other countries.....having the maxim-type seat and tank. The 2 cyl ones were non-cradle frames so the guards would not bolt on easily, but the guards would be appropriate for the inline 4 ones.

Damn. If they were made for the original 400cc/FOUR double-loop frame, I could have used them on a 550.

They're sold. It didn't look to me like they'd fit a 400/500/550 four, but now that I go back and look...

    urk.
