I plan to put some kind of luggage rack on my bike. I had one on my last bike and I miss the utility, especially for trips. I really like the adjustable type, like this:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Used-Adjustable ... c3&vxp=mtr

Any idea which ones from what bikes would fit a 750 Maxim? Or a universal option? Cheaper is better. There are some plans on here to make a sissy bar yourself, but I want the adjustment option, so I can use the extra part of my seat and the rack behind it. Anybody getting rid of one?

If that ebay link stops working, I'm talking about this type deal from another member's old (2007!) rack for sale thread: http://www.zumalights.com/xj650/rack00.jpg

yea - they're out there - when i bought my bike there was one on it, which i took off. I'd offer that one to you, but i like keeping it around for when i want to travel with a passenger and still have room for storage.

I will say that the little trunk thats bolted to the rack is pretty slick!!

Here's a pic of my bike the day I brought it home, the only picture I can find of my bike with the rack and sissy bar on it. The back rest can slide forward and backward, even enough that i could adjust it far enough forward that I could even lean back against it if need be.

Yeah, that one is nice, I like a little taller back rest so I can pile things on it, or put my backpack on it, instead of on me. When I bought my bike, I almost went to look at a 650 that had a great big box on the back, but the owner described the bike as "very slow" in his ad. Lol, no thanks. (I didn't feel like finding out what the problems with that bike were) My bike was never "slow" lol.

(going way off topic now, ha) I also have a few "missing right side cover" pictures. Took me a long time to find one of those. In fact so long that if you look at my bike closely, the paint on one cover has a lot more blue metal flake than the other. Because the tank and one cover was painted, then like a year later I gave the guy the right side one to paint. He couldn't remember how much blue was in it. Haha. (Bike is black with blue metallic ghost flames on tank, just a layer of blue flake over black on side covers) In the sun it looks like I have a black tank and blue side cover on that side, gives it personality.

Here's my paint thread, actually, but I don't seem to show when the battery cover got painted, but you get the idea of the blue under the kitchen lights. http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic ... +pics.html
Trust me, the left side one looks blue there, but the right hand one is bluer. And that one pic makes the painted one's aluminum looked scratched, but it really isn't ;)

daymn, how much does your paint guy charge? I want to get my tank re-sprayed gloss black with a little pearl as came stock. the idiot po must have overfilled it constantly and theres an ugly faded section that runs from the fill hole down the sides of the tank.

If i wax the tank its hardly noticible unless just in the rigt light, but after a bit when the wax gets washed away, its back to being noticible.

I had the side covers and front fender, but just had them off for the same reason to clean them up and polish them.

what grit did you sand/polish with to get that high high gloss? I'm always conteplating between going h-core shiny like you did, or more for the brushed matte look.

Lol, I asked him how much too. (We were on a team together at the time, dragon boat) He said, "nah, I'll just do it for ya."

Well sir, you drive a hard bargain.

I didn't do sanding or anything on the paint, I'm sure he just got it real smooth after stripping it, he did all the prep too. (well, I had done prep and paint, badly before that, see my gallery when it had a military theme)

Then when he saw the side cover he said "is that aluminum? I'll polish that up" I told him there were some deep scratches, especially on the right one, but whatever he uses turns the metal "molten" as he put it. My main thing I need to do is polish aluminum all over the bike. That really makes these things pop, in my opinion.
