So I had some rust to take care of on those little chromish side covers on my xj650. Bought this: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4 ... ?locale=en and it worked better than in my wildest dreams! I have since dipped some tools that have been entirely rusted for years and they've come out like new!

Now the only downside is... it's 10$ a liter o_O - Does anybody know of something similar to this that wouldn't have me bankrupt myself?

MUCH better! Considering how many things I thought I'd eventually have to replace because of the rust on it, it's going to actually save me quite a bit of money! I saved a 40 years old pair of pliers with that product already! Wondering if I shouldn't just dip my entire car in it :D.

    Thanks a lot!

Electrolytic rust removal is cheaper still, but you have to dedicate a part of your workspace to do it. A 12v battery charger, some scrap to use as anodes, a bit of wire, a suitable container, water, and a $2 box of washing soda. I de-rusted all of the small parts for my '64 Cub Cadet and still had 1/2 the box of washing soda left over.

Harbor Freight stocks the stuff, although it's more expensive than the links above show -- I think it was $10/quart or $30/gal. I went with this stuff because I have no experience with, and little enthusiasm for trying, the electrolysis method. If there's one thing I'm rather paranoid about, it's electricity.

    The electrical source isn't dangerous.

You can use a low amp Battery Charger.

Not shure if they still make it. Navel jelly. Used it on my Hearse's Drum brakes and then painted them. Lasted years.

Yeah, it's still available. It's phosphoric acid.
