I decided to go for a ride today. It was 29*, pretty cold. When standing, it's not that bad but that super chill wind. I had a t-shirt, leather jacket, and a windbreaker, with jeans.
I found it pretty good, for a while. It got pretty cold!!

I realized, ridding around in the summer is a lot better then the winter. Even if you are all bundled up, it's just not the same as going down the road, heading to the lake at 90*.

Kind of strange that even when it was early on in the ride, where it's OK, it's just not the same.

I was going to ride my bike through the winter, but now I think I'll put it up. I should of changed the oil BEFORE it got so cold.

I ride through the winter. It's hit 27 here the past week. Definitely enjoying the heated jacket I bought in Seattle, didn't imagine I'd be using that in Texas.

It is better in summer, if you don't wear ATGATT, because it feels more carefree. But for wearing gear, winter is a bit better I think... No sweating like a dog under all the protection.

I prefer Summer all around, though. I definitely plan on living somewhere tropical in the future.

I have a helmet with a bubble shield that gets cold. I thought to have my face covered I'd be OK. I found the coldest I get is my face, which is shielded from the wind.

I ride whenever it's not slippery. Coldest so far was last winter at around 18*F.
Good warm up time for the motor.

    For me:
    Insulated and waterproof boots
    Snowmobile pants, coat, and gloves
    Thermal underwear
    Heavyweight fleece balaclava
Snowmobile shield for my helmet, less fogging.
Tire pressures checked every time I go out, even if it's only a half hour between rides.

I'm still riding until the snow and ice stop me.
That full fairing comes in handy this time of year.

Just snowed a few inches last night and expected to get 4" tomorrow and another 4" the next day.
I want to ride one time in the snow to a friends house so he knows I'm crazy before I put it up for good.

Should of changed the oil when I could of easier.

    Hey All,

So, as the story goes...The Wife told me this morning it's too cold to ride and it's time to put her up for the winter. Naaaaaaah, I say, it won't be until the roads say so. I'm just going to take one of the usual 3Omin spins around the community to warm her up good. Plus, I won't be doing no more than 45mph. Two pair of thermal underwear, jeans, leather jacket, thermal gloves and a thermal headwrap under my 3/4 open face helmet...I'll be warm enough...It's only 35* outside. The rain is freezing, but it's not sticking...yet. Suppose to get 1/2" of snow by the evening. FROZE MY A$$ OFF!!! "Solid" rode like a trooper tho'. Started and warmed up nicely. I was hoping I'd be able to ride her until the road conditions said not too. Probably would be able to if I were to purchase some of that "warming gear". Gonna' go ahead and put her up for the winter. Spring will be here soon enough.

I see in the report that is' supposed to get into the teens the next few days. It was 28* and I put on my lined, leather jacket, then put on my winter coat over it.
I had to put the battery back in, then went for a ride. I was about 8 miles a way and it started snowing.

I was glad, since now I can say I went riding my bike in winter, while it was snowing.

I went by a friends house, while I was looking to see if he was home, I hit some slush piled in the middle of the road, and wiggled a bit.

I got home and will take the battery out tomorrow. I was happy I got the gas moving through the carbs. I had fun, but would like to say again, it's not as good ad ridding on an 90* day.

Bike was a little hard to start, but ran very good. I noticed with a full battery, it runs better then one with half water in it and not fully charged.

Most likely, this will be the last time I ride until March. Although I may put it in storage across the street next week.

I was afrrade to go fast in the corners, I was very easy on it.

    Thanks,
    Chris.

P.S. I DID IT!!!! I RODE IN THE WINTER WHILE IT WAS SNOWING!!!!!!

I ride mine to work all year other than those nasty, rainy, snowy or wind in excess of 50 MPH. 80 mile round trip. Left this morning and it was in the low 20s. Just pair thermals, sweatshirt, & my 1 piece suit and off we go. Keep the bike covered after the ride home. Fires right up the next morning & I'm headed out. No warmup at all.

I rode in jeans, T-shirt, tennis shoes, a leather jacket and a winter coat over the jacket. Old ripped up ski gloves. The most thing that got cold was my upper legs and face, since I have an old open face with a bubble shield.

Supposed to warm up to 35* on Wednesday. I may put the battery in and go for a ride. I'm afraid of the gas gumming up the carbs.
    Should of drained before.

Best outfit for cold riding is a ski bib, ski jacket, waterproof and insulated boots, scarf, waterproof gloves, ski mask and full helmet. Warm as toast.

Anybody know about how long between rides in the winter does it take before the gas gums up the carbs?

If you have ethanol in your gas, then quicker, sometimes like 2 weeks. Without ethanol, longer. maybe over 6 months, maybe less.

I've gone over the winter, and maybe up to a year on bikes with no noticeable perf difference. But I'd not depend on that.

I'm a fan of seafoam though, so I think that will remove light amounts of tarnish / buildup if some gets started in the carbs. I put seafoam in the tank in the spring, them maybe once or twice through the year.

    Thank you.

I have a friend whose a mechanic that's swears by techron. He told me he brings cars in sputtering and puts techron in and right in the shop it clears. I've herd a lot of good things about seafoam. Five Star reviews mostly. I will try seafoam this spring.

Looks like I can put it in my crank before an oil change that helps clean along with it in the gas.

I'd like to get the gas down low, then add a huge amount of foam. If a little is good, lots is better. :)

Like on techron, get the 25 gallon stuff and add it to 3 gallons.

Didn't warm up today, but the news said tomorrow it's supposed to get in the high 30's with sun. Was looking forward to going for a ride.

This afternoon I washed my coat. When I got home I found that the zipper is gone.

Can't believe on the eve of my ride I lose my zipper. Not sure what I'll do now. Will be sad it warms up but can't go for a ride.

Agreed, Burger. Here in Duluth it's been well below 0 all week. Ah well, makes the summer sweeter.
