Has anyone done this? I have not looked at previous entries yet but it has been on my mind. Also if I take my hands off the steering my front wheel shimmies around crazily. Is that a sign of needing my tires, forks, or installing a fork brace? Not sure. Other than that seems to be running excellent with those new coils.

The stock front fender on most XJs had a quite stiff (stamped) fork brace built into the front fender. You can't see it. If you remove the front fender, I would highly recommend one.

It could be tires, forks, steering head bearings or even worn out rear shocks or bad swingarm bearings.

Start by checking the air pressure in your tires.

i think you may be refering to a "steering damper" no ?

which is an entirely different thing.
