Does any one know if a seca faring (or the windshield) fit on a 1981 xj550 maxim?

You mean the goofy (sorry) Cafe fairing from a 550 Seca?

SURE. It's handlebar/fork mounted, and the bikes came with the same handlebar.

    BUT---

Good luck finding one, with mounting hardware. You'll have to fight most Seca guys for it. And you'd need a set of Seca horns otherwise it'd have those two big holes with nothing in them...

Yamaha also offered a small windshield for both of the 550s; and there are a number of clear windshields that will fit.

    Fitz don't do windshields.

Depends on whether looking cool or RIDING is your priority, I guess.

I always thought the "bikini fairing" screwed up the lines of the 550 Seca. The original design didn't have it, Yamaha added it for the North American market.

IMHO, not only is it "contrary" to the lines of the bike, it genuinely screws up the handling due to its excessive weight.

But if you like it, go for it. I'm not a believer in "form over function."
