Ok I was out tinkering with the XJ today, and I went through my old box of parts from my 01 zx6r I wrecked a few years back. And I found the old radiator cooling fan, and I thought that would be cool on the Seca. So I made up some brackets and bolted it to the holes above the header(by the way what are they for,UJM?). I think it looks kinda neat. We shall see how good it works though. Let me know what u guys think.

Those holes are for a oil cooler. My first Seca had one, but my second didn't. It may have been a add on from the factory.
I need to put one of those on my Bayou!

they also hold a bracket for the giant "touring" fairing that was on my bike.

Great idea if the bike is sitting in traffic. Bit of a disruption for airflow at speed. Was the bike running hot previously? If it isn't, I wouldn't keep the fan. It is possible that it will create hot spots as it blocks airflow toward the center of the head. If the fan doesn't spin faster than the airflow at speed (ie. positive flow even with the open air forced at it), it might be keeping the needed additional flow from reaching the head.
Just my two cents. I hope I'm wrong. Nice job on the fab.

Pop a thermometer back there and see what you get for operating temps. Try it with and without the fan.
The only reason it pops into my mind is a buddy of mine put some Piaa Offroad 7" lights on his VW Rabbit, two of them just in front of the radiator grill. His temps went way up with those pie pans in the way, and it is water cooled! You would think that the airflow wouldn't make a huge difference. Experience has proven otherwise.

Well I just went ahead and took it off. It prob would not do that much good anyways. And it was scratching my fender.

Did you get a chance to measure the temps with and without the fan?

Na I went and did some curve digging, and noticed it was catching my front fender like crazy. It ended up pushing the surround into the fan so it would not spin. I just said to heck with it. So i'm just going to go looking for more mods to do.

An oil cooler is a great mod to do. Gives you a little more oil in the system and helps the system run cooler. Give it a shot.
