    I'm not real familiar with the 900. What is the purpose of the air scoops? Doesn't go to the carbs, so is it for looks?

    I can't see any other purpose than for looks. They actually hide the oil radiator when you look at the bike from one side or the other.

    There are pressed-fiber "Deflectors" just behind the openings that direct the air coming in the front on to the Cylinder Head.

    Rick is correct. For those who live in the north, where snow used to fall, and we used to be able to ride snowmobiles (sic), these act like the shrouds on the aircooled engines---the purpose, as Rick said, is to direct more air towards the head.

    It is not uncommon to find these without the inner baffle as they can work loose.
