Ok i've delt with the "batt" and the "brake" warning a (millions thanks to the help i got from the guys here). Now with the neutral light. Its always on.I have had the swtch out of the bottom of the engine(not fun) cleaned it up while i had it out I unhooked i turned on the key and the light was out.Im sure i have it pegged to the switch being faulty. But I dont know whats in side the trans that the switch makes contact with could there be somthing in the trans i should worry about? the swtch is spring loaded on the end.|For the light to come on im guesssing it has to make contact to ground out the cercuit. And of course the "saftey" aspect wont work properly with the light on.

if i'am thinking right that switch should have a littlte roller ball on the plunger end that mates with a divot in the shifter drum when it's in neutral.
it doesn't do anything mechanically except plug up the hole it's in.

If you pull the switch back out check and continuity between the lead and the switch body. I wonder if it's shorted out internally.

Im kinda thinkin that too MiCarl I just have no idea whats in side that it gets "signal" that its in nuetral from.Ive chased the wire checked all connection from dash to switch.unplugged every connection starting from dash and everyone turned out the light right till i unscrewed the wire from the switch.what are the posobilities that whatever is in the tranny that "trips " the switch could be the problem.Who ever had this bike before didnt know what they were doing.Im going to remove and test the switch like you said.Polock ya the swich has a brass pin sticking out of it that is spring loaded and sticks out of the switch about a quarter inch or so.

    Thanks guys

The switch is actuated by the shift drum, when it's in neutral there is a just one spot on the drum where there is no groove. You may also have a short circuit or a ground caused by chaffed wiring. If a hot wire has frayed and the wire that lights the indicator bulb is also frayed, and in contact you will get a lighted lamp.

a its taken a while but I have the nuetral switch out of the bike.I have continuity between the switch body and the screw that holds a wire .I am guessing its not suppose to do that? the other end is a brass spring loaded tip.

Hi Mike, sorry but you have a bad switch. If you are going to change it you should drain the oil. Also there is a crush washer to replace. Not a hard job just a PITA.

Since it's already out, try flushing it out really well with contact cleaner. But you'll probably need to replace it.
