    Hi,

does anyone have a picture of a Savage tank swap on a Maxim?
I like the embedded speedometer, and the tank funnel could be large enough, but am afraid the tank looks too small...

There will be a few mods.I don't think it would be anything real tough though.
1)Probably have to change out the petcock.Look over at www.suzukisavage.com I think it's a Raptor petcock that bolts right on.Haven't seen one up close to say if it would give you more clearance.
2)You might have to massage the bottom of the tank slightly.
3)Remove stock tank mounts and make brackets for the Savage tank.

So with massaging the bottom it would drop down a bit more?
    Than it's not bad.

Indeed, a yamaha raptor petcock bolts on straight away. One difference compared to the Savage petcock is the reserve position (don't know if that's the correct word) being 55mm instead of 65mm high.

Thanks Demin, you're doing good on tank issues, I saw in another topic :)

yeah, if it could drop down a bit more that would be tits. i def like the savage tanks built in speedo and stuff. could go a long ways in cleaning up the front end imo. it doesnt have as natural of a look as i had hoped but i still think it looks pretty cool!

One of our UK members put a V-Star 650 tank on his Maxim. Has the speedo built in and 4 gallon capacity. Don't know if he had to change the mounts though.

The price of a second hand V-star tank more than doubles a savage tank in the Netherlands. They are great with hammered 'kneedents' and indeed larger: http://www.bikeexif.com/wp-content/uplo ... ic-650.jpg

I found two persons with a V-star tank here:

It would be a good idea to open a topic dedicated to tank swaps as there just popped up one more concerning a Dyna tank. Might do that later..

It would be nice to have a dedicated sticky for certain things instead of trolling through a 1000 threads.
Harley style tanks will require a tunnel mod or frame mod unless you get the old split tanks and rig a speedo and panel for the indicator lights in between.

I think if you massaged it a little it would go down farther. :?

OnB, I have a newer model heritage tank (aftermarket) made for a carb'd harley. It actually sits about the same as the savage tank in the above pics. I had considered massaging (or beating as I like to call it) the tunnel a bit further in to let it sit a touch lower. It wouldn't take much to get it to sit right, it's just so ridiculously wide it doesn't look right IMO. I also have considered narrowing and re-tunneling it to make it a perfect fit.

I like the original Max tank because it looks like a large Sportster tank and in narrows down at the seat. If you have access to a welding machine and welding skills, I would use the Max tank tunnel and weld whatever tank top you want to it. The tank is thin and would require low setting mig with non-flux wire. Would use CO2 gas shield at least, a Argon mix works great.

If I could find a stock donor tank it would help a ton. Like you said, all I'd need would be the tunnel.
