Hey guys I am new to this form and new to motorcycles with only basic knowledge so go easy on me I already know how to change the handle bars but I am looking for something different, a guy I know showed me a picture of what his came with stock witch is different then mine

Mine look like the purple one but I cant stand them I want the ones like the red one witch he said came stock I asked him if he could measure them but who knows if he will

So hears my question can some one explain to me how I would go about measuring them out and where on earth could I buy them ? Where I live there are no motorcycle shops or junk yards with parts so online would be the best but I hate to order them and then them be different from what I want

If it helps my bike is a 1981 Yamaha Maxim and the red one is a 1982 Yamaha Maxim both are 650s

Any help would be awesome as I really want the red ones handle bars lol

    Thanks guys

Hey Brad67, Welcome, you could check on the Buy and Sell forum here. If you don't find any there just ask. (already done that.) A lot of guys take them off and swap for apes. If none of that works, theres Chacal. he's the xj4ever guy that is the supporting vendor, (top of page). There is also e-bay. Now that you've mentioned it though, I'm sure somebody will chime in with a pair to get rid of.

the black pair look an awful lot like the ones on my seca, but they've got too much rise for my taste. Im looking at swapping them for a low rise or straight drag bar, I've even considered the clip ons,
Anyways the point of my rambling is that if you want my bars when I do eventually swap them you're welcome to them.

when I get out there tomorrow to finish my valve job ill take some pics.

The purple bike has the rams horn style bars that came standard on the 650's. The red bike looks to have the straighter 750 Maxim bars.

Cable wise it should be close to the same.

When ever changing handle bars it is always a process of getting the bars first. Then measuring the cables to get the right length. Trying to make the handle bars fit the cables will lead to problems with broken cables, or restricted steering.

From the pics, the red bike seems to have something like the nighthawk bars. I got my Bikemaster (Clubman) bars from JCWhitney.com for about 23 bucks & shipping. The website has all the measurements of each bar such as rise & pullback. Get someone to help measure the distance (where your hands would be comfortable) to the top tree & how far back to gauge what you need.

I have the bikemaster Clubman's, and my expereince was they do not fit on a stock Seca in the intended (drop) position. The center section isn;t wide enough, so the curves bump up against the triple clamps. Taller risers might solve this, but then why run clubmans?

For as simple as you want, you could literally buy a 7/8" od piece of pipe / tube and put a bend or two in it. Motorcycle bars for street use don't need to be uber strong or light. A single bend in the center will do; the risers don't HAVE to be parallel. However, such a design does result in the bars "dropping" at an angle that matches your rake. Not a bad thing in all cases, but it removes a lot of flexability in positioning, which is why all commercial bars use a bend at each end, keeping the risers parallel and allowing the bars to rotate for fine tuning of drop / rise angle.

The main thing I just want in the new ones are so they dont bend back towards the bike so much like the ones I have on now do but with out seeing better pictures of them its so tough to see if they bend back or not I think I will give it a shot making a set could be fun and I could use the pipe bender I bought and used once hahah Thanks guys
