ok so i was thinking about getting a whole new headlight for my 85 700N. but i would rather just get an new lens that puts out more light. but i do not know where to find one that will fit into the stock housing and still leave room for the wiring. has anyone done this b4? and if you have, could you point me to a web site or a manufacturer. thanks for all you help in advance.

You aren't looking for a new lens are you? You want a new bulb, right? If this is the case just grab local yellow pages and look under Motorcycle Parts or something. I'm sure these can be obtained as aftermarket parts. This is how last summer my buddy got his bulb for his Virago.

I'm not sure if you can go to halogen though. Lets see what others have to say

no i did mean lens (the part the bulb fits into) mine is foggy from age and not to bright even tho my bulb is getting all the power it needs and never dims. some of the new lenses i have seen are at least 2X's as bright while using the same bulb i do and same amount of power.

I purchased a new capsule and bulb from JCWhitney.com. It's basically a conversion from the older 'sealed beam' styled lights to the more modern setups where you actually plug in a regular H4 bulb. I would also recommend one of their 80/100 watt bulbs. That's what I got to finish my setup and I really really like it. Worlds better than the old sealed beam that I had. There was some extremely minor modifications that I had to make so that the new capsule would fit in my frame, but it was really easy. You may not even have to do anything, but 5 minutes with a dremel tool and you'll be on your way. Good luck.
