i went to the MSF site and looked for a course in michigan near me...

St Clair County Community College is the closest (about 6 miles) but it redirects to Schoolcraft College...

has anyone got any information on the MSF run course in the thumb area?

there is one at Macomb but its a $275 privately run course and the one advertised in Yale is a Drivers Education course. i didnt see anything about motorcycle safety classes there...

    thanks!

Too bad you aren't a little closer. Ithaca does 5 or 6 classes each year and I thinks it's only $25, but it's about 2 hours from you.

i got an email back from S.C.C.C.C and they said that they no longer offer the class and i had to check with Schoolcraft College...

Damn. I was gonna put my kid through that one, it used to be like only $25. Let's check Lapeer, Sanilac and Genessee counties. I'm in the same boat.

Retired MC Sheriff deputy used to do the one in Ithaca, not sure who does it now.

I think most of the classes now are put on by a driver's ed company....hence the $275 price tag at most of them.

If I here of something out your way I'll let you guys know.

I would suggest taking a ride down to your local dmv and asking. Or youtube has some pretty advanced vids

The huge upside of taking a course is twofold (aside from the immediate feedback from a trained instructor). 1: You end the course (in most states) with a slip that you trade in at the DMV for an M endorsement; no extra tests needed. 2: You generally get a discount on your motorcycle (and in some cases auto) insurance for a few years after successfully completing the class.
A DMV should know where a course is, but that seems to depend on the employee that you talk to, so don't be discouraged.

Macomb Community College does it at their South Campus for $25. You are getting sent to Schoolcraft because, I believe, they are the flagship school that sponsors the programs. At any rate, I took the two weekend course last summer at Macomb. It gives you a lot of track time for inexperienced riders (I hadn't been on two wheels in YEARS). They have the one weekend option for people who are more comfortable on the bikes. The instructors were phenomenal. Here's there link to the class brochure (p. 21-22)
    http://www.macomb.edu/NR/rdonlyres/A8B8 ... lasses.pdf

I enrolled via telephone. Gave them my name and paid with my credit card. Should be easy.
