Look for all the Timing Marks:
Cams, Bearing Caps and Bridges, Crankshaft Rotor.

The Timing process begins with the #1 Piston at TDC with the Crank Rotor lined-up with the Timing Pointer on the Right side of the Case.

Carefully follow these steps which detail the Timing Process.
After setting the Timing, ... S-L-O-W-L-Y turn-over the Engine ... by hand ... through two (2) full revolutions and inspect the Timing Marks for accuracy.

IF the Marks are NOT aligned with their Indicator, ... REPEAT the process all-over from scratch.

There are Pointers on the Cams that Line-up with Matching Arrow Points on the Side of the Inner Cap.

The Marks on the Cams are sometimes difficult to see.
    Use bright light.
Both Cams have Markings indicating Intake and Exhaust plus Ser. Numbers and Raised Arrows on them.
