    First post!

To give you guys a little back ground on my 81 XJ650. I've been bobbing it out for a year now. This is my first project bike and have been learning a lot so far. Special thanks to you guys!! As you'll see from my pictures I've had a college budget to work off of until now. Please don't judge to hard, I'm in the process of making it a hard tail and putting some money into it. I'll post some pictures below. My question is after closer inspection of my bike the previous owner rewired it and from what i can tell he had no idea what he was doing.

My questions is, where can i fined a wiring diagram of just everything that deals with the starting and keeping the bike running? I have the repair manual but the wiring diagram in there is to hard to follow.

Now this is where I might feel dumb for asking that question. I have been researching and found this link:

    http://xj650.blogspot.com/2009/03/how-t ... rcuit.html

This shows me a wiring diagram of the Starter but being a carbureted bike is that all i would need to run it (in the way of electrical)?

Thanks for all your help guys i really appreciate it!

Engine back in with cut and wrapped pipes, K&N air filters in lieu of air box, shorten bars!

looking pretty good. have you upped your jets to make it even for the air box removal and new pipes? you dont want to run lean

    Welcome :)

If you search for "simple wire" by member "Jigen" there's a simplified wiring harness posted in colour, only thing to watch on it that I've found is that there is a grey wire from the ignition pickups that's hard to see & doesn't want to be "deleted" or it'll only run on 2.

As far as the pods & pipes go, you'll need to at least rejet in order to not run lean (engine killer) and may need to rescue the old airbox rubbers to use as velocity stacks (smooths flow out & allows the CV carbs to work better)

Also, have you replaced your rear brake shoes and overhauled/replaced hoses on the front end? (see links in my signature)

    Thanks for the reply guys!

(biggyfaction) No I have not done anything with my jets yet. Any ideas of the right jet kit to use?

(750E-II_29Rbloke) I just replaced my breaks both front and back, but good looking out though. I will try to fine this wiring harness your talking about.

Also, does anyone know a website you can find all the components to make your spark plug cords longer?

As far as jetting goes, it's not an exact thing where anyone can tell you "put XX main and xy pilot jets & it'll be fine", unfortunately when running pods it can be more complicated than just up jetting too (hence why I suggested the airbox rubbers as velocity stacks). If you search pods there's a whole mess of threads about it.

member & supporting vendor "Chacal" sells inline splicers and copper cored HT leads as well as any other stuff you could ever need for XJ's you can either PM or email him from here... ;) http://xjbikes.com/Your_Account/profile=743.html

    EDIT-: Jigen's simple wiring harness post http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=3 ... iring.html

    Also,
The "factory boots" are the airbox rubbers I mentioned, flow to the vacuum pistons is all messed up without them... Hope this is of some help, but like I say it's not an exact science & other people will have different settings, main thing to take from this is the use of the airbox rubbers is pretty important to keep the carbs happy. :)

    Thanks for the help!

One more Question, what kind of spark plug wire would I need to buy to lengthen my spark plug wires?

Copper cored HT lead as I mentioned in the last post before I linked you to Chacal's profile ;)
