    Interesting side note:

    Notice the EPA "warning/disclaimer" stamped into the mufflers.

    I recently exchanged pics with a 550 Seca owner from Canada; his mufflers had similar "paragraphs" stamped into them.

    My Seca 550 mufflers, thankfully, only have the part numbers stamped into them.

    I'm wondering how widespread the practice of stamping a whole paragraph into the mufflers actually was in the XJ range. Later bikes moreso than earlier?

    Waldo, you're in Cali. Is that by any chance an "NC" (California model?)

    Sure enough Bigfitz. Smog control and noise laws out here were at one time the toughest in the country for the manufacturers.
    I guess they ran out of room on the muffler so they added a sticker to the frame

    Noise laws, through not really enforced (unless the cops just need a reason to say hello) do not seem to matter once the bike is of the showroom floor.
