hey so when i got my bike the speedo was smashed and really just looks ugly i was thinking about taking the rpm gauge and just keeping that on the bike nothing else i opened up the whole cluster and god damn there are so many wires can anybody help me with the wiring stuff all i want is the rpm gauge from the hole cluster.

by only taking that off is it gonna cause any problems with the horn turn signals light and key switch or will it just not show me that they are on but will still work this is my first bike any help s appreciated

I've actually removed both gauges from my '85 700. Took it a step further and clipped a bunch of wires cuz I have no intention of replacing the gauges (California doesn't require them and the make our bike look like Mickey Mouse, I hate that.)

Looks like crap right now but eventually I'll purty it up a little! Anyway, as long as you don't clip the head light, the bike will still start. As long as you keep all blinkers connected, the indicators will still work. DEFINITELY don't clip the low fuel indicator!

thats the thing i changed the gas tank on my bike so the fuel inticator wont do anything for me as of now unless i find a way to wire that up with the old one but all i wanna do is remove the rpm gauge build it a different mount so i dont want any of those indicatpors u have on your bike just the rpm but obviusly i still want the headlights and turn signals and stuff to work but dont wanna have another light like u have telling me they are on

What I was getting at is that you can clip almost everything and still have a functioning bike. But I do strongly encourage you to keep the indicator lights if at all possible!

I removed the gauges, indicator light panel and headlight. I placed a speedo in the center of the bars and new headlight. Made a indicator light panel on the right side and stuffed all the wires into a double electrical switchbox.

I don't have a good wiring schematic. Did you check all the fuses?

You need to find a manual with a good wiring schematic. In the future, it it a good idea to take pics or draw a diagram before taking something apart because you can't remember everything.
The main fuse (30amp) goes under the seat, the other 3 fuses are in the indicator light housing. You may have wired it up wrong and blew the main fuse or don't have something hooked up. I would disconnect the battery until you get a schematic and make the necessary corrections before something gets damaged.
