Finally got around to making it back out to the "toybox" last night to rebuild the starter. Slapped it back in and hit the start button... and for the first time since about 2003(?not sure exactly) it rored to life!! For the longest time all it would do is ideal with the choke on, and finally got it to rev up the r's, man I forgot how good this thing sounds @ 7,000rpm's!!

Now i just have to finish the reinstall of the front breaks and get this thing off to a "real" mechanic for a carb sync. Then back on the hwy I go!! Finally a light at the end of the tunnel!

Sorry for the odd post, just giddy as a school girl at the moment.

Glad to hear another xj is roaring to life. Keep it safe. I know the giddiness. I got my xj700 project going last thursday. Friday was registration and insurance time and then off for a 80 mile shake down. Remember the power and dont get too comfy with the power. Respect the CC's And stay smart.
Man, I sound like my dad.

You should read some of the older posts here on doing a sync on your own. I built a homemade manometer and yics tool for about $15 in parts from the hardware store, and doing the sync can be done in an evening.

It will save you a lot of time and money. It's really a lot easier than it sounds.
