The "zippy pouch" and the chain lock (although mine came with yellow sheaths.)

Nice bike but it will need brakes, fork seals, a valve adjustment soon with the associated gaskets, etc.

    'Tain't worth quite $5K YET...

to answer your question, I believe its a chain.

now my question is what would something like this actually worth?? I'd be surprised if he gets more than three grand.

That's what I'd think would be reasonable, since it will need work.

I've enjoyed reading the occasional posting about value of our bikes. I believe in supply and demand, and do foresee that it won't be long before our bikes (at least, the ones that are mostly stock) escalate in price significantly.

Having probably dumped $1K in restoring an XJ550 that I bought for $1K, I certainly see the value in a bike that does not need any work. :)

When I see "3rd owner" and "1750 miles", I'm thinking that's an engine mockup. No way can three owners do less than 2k miles in 31 years.

Sure they could. Especially if owners 2 and 3 couldn't get it running properly so it just got parked again. My '83 had two or three owners before me; one of them only put 400 miles on it.

Ok, technically it's possible, but I'm always suspicious that they are passing along a lemon in the guise of "low mileage beauty".

Damn pretty. Not 5g's pretty, but still pretty.

Interesting to see the front fairing for what the color scheme would say 650 seca, haven't seen one with the fairing on it.

I was tempted to send him a message asking what he would need for the spare exhaust, but if he's asking 5k for the bike, I'm sure he's going to be asking way too much.

A bike someone will be proud to own though, that's for sure.

Hopefully whomever buys it makes it over to the forum here.

The '81 and '82 Seca 550s came with the fairing; Yamaha dropped it for the '83 model year. The bike being discussed is an '82 and it is correct; but Yamaha said the fairing was "removable" so a lot of folks removed it. (I did.) Mostly serious enthusiasts who didn't take long to figure out the negative effect it had on handling.

Yamaha probably noticed that a lot of them were being removed and dropped it.

I almost bought one of those gpz 550 new in 83 but a buddy of mine owned the yamaha shop got a great deal on a maxim 750. Drove it a year and traded it in on a 900 seca with less then 1500 miles.

I was referring to the silver/blue/white one.

Never seen a US 550 seca in silver.
