Don't have a picture, but there is a 1973 Honda CB 350, 4 cyl, available in town. Looks complete, except for rear turn signals. Tank is full of rust, mufflers rusted out and brakes will need work. Old tires, good compression, but hasn't been cranked in about 8 years. Carbs and boots all look good. he wants $800, but I'm not willing to offer anything near that. Who has a good idea how much to pay, and an estimate to restore or at least get serviceable.

I'd buy it for $400 and expect to turn a profit. Depends on your local market, though; prices for bikes are inflated in Austin, and CB's are very popular with the hipsters around town.

Look on ebay rudty tank takes away from the value price seems steep to me. They were different but the pipes rust out from the inside and they were no faster then a twin cyl 350. Now if it was a 400 might be worth it to me . Everyone's taste is different. If you like the bike and plan on keeping it i would say go for it they are hard to find . Not sure how the traffic is down in Bruswick but here in atl it would scare me i sold my cl 350 was afraid i was gonna get run over in traffic with all the nuts on the road

Brunswick traffic is nothing like your area. But I wouldn't use it for highway traveling anyway--at least not any main highway. I'd use my XJ700 or Honda 750 for that. This would be just for tooling around town on a cool looking bike.

As a resto, you could expect $1800 as TOP DOLLAR on a pristine restoration. A grand is not enough to bring it to that condition. Your 4 bills price is more in line.

    I wouldn't spend much.

You have to be real careful jumping into a deal for a "Parts Bike".
Tell the owner, ... "Rick. from the Forum said to tell you that for-sale bikes that don't run and have rusting exhausts are Parts Bikes!"
    Make sure it's not seized.
    Do a Compression Check.
    Do a Reality Check, too!

I'm thinking along your lines. The engine is not seized and appears to have very good compression using the kick starter. Can you get a good compression check on a bike just using the kick starter? I'm thinking $200-$300 tops. As bad as the inside of the tank looks, I can only imagine what the inside of the carbs look like.

To give you an idea what one goes for here is a link to a running one on ebay. A completely restored one goes for less then 3k and you will never find all the parts you need to do that. I bet a good set of factory exhaust goes for in the neighborhood of a grand here is a runner on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-HON ... 2748#v4-47

During "The Season" you buy a "Runner" that just needs some maintenance.
Engaging in a project should be left until the Fall.

I wouldn't want you to invest in a lost cause.
From the description it seems like time has taken its toll on that machine.
You'll be better off letting you money get you a ride you can have some fun on.
Not something that has all the fun used-up on it.

Clean-up a runner and get some wind in your face.
Don't face a daunting task that seems to be dubious at best.

Probably the best idea. If I can get it cheap, I may put it aside for a rainy day.
