I am getting a new rear tire. I had a D404 but it dry rotted in 2 seasons and the tread didn't last long either.
I am considering Shinko 712 130/90-16 for my XJ750J but I know there isn't much clearance.
!30mm is the spec but some are wider than others.
The D404 measures about 5.1" and there isn't much room left.
I am worried about the tire rubbing on the drive shaft housing if it is much wider.
Does anyone that has a Shinko know the actual width?

    Thanks, Maz

Bruise1987 and I both have the tour master 230's and have notice excessive wear. So I wouldn't recommend those.

But bruise1987 has oversized 230's on his 900RK I will ask him what size he has and get back to you. I have stock size for 550RJ.

Magiccowinuse, how much is excessive? Are you running correct tire pressure?

I just installed a set of 230s onto my bike so just wondering if there should a concern.

About one riding season here in Chicago and there is maybe 1/3 left for him. I put mine on halfway through the year and they have 2/3 left. Fronts are ok but rears seem to wear like crazy in the center.

I have not been riding but 2 years so I am not very educated on the average lifetime for a tire on a motorcycle, but it seems like these are short.

Bruise1987 finally texted me back. He has 130's on his 900. There is about 1/8-3/16 gap on either side. I'm trying to get an actual tire measurement for you.

Pretty sure quite a few members run the 712's on their 750's 130/90-16's at that.

Thanks for the replies. I got the Shinko 712's and put them on the bike.
The rear tire does not rub and has less than 1/8 clearance from the drive shaft housing. The front feels strange with the straight center groove.
Interesting ......130mm= 5.118". The Shinko is 5.42" wide- about 137mm.
    The D404 I had was about 5.1 wide-about 130mm. The old Dunlop qualifier I had was 5.5" wide-about 139mm. All supposedly 130mm tires.
