another carb question

    well a while back when i got my bike a 1985 xj700 maxim i bought a pack like what u see in the picture

    when i was putting it together i realized there is a piece from the package i got that wasnt in the original carbs idk what it is or what its for or even where it goes i will include a picture with this post so in the pic the part im talking about is the silver oval on the bottom left corner of the pic if anybody can tell me what that is i would appreciate that and a picture of were and how it goes is even better thanks in advance

    new cover for the mixture screws maybe?

    That's what I'd say, even if it doesn't make a lot of sense to put a new cover there...In addition, since all other parts in this kit are bowl related, this cover looks very odd.

    Yes. This is a Tamper Proof Cap that caps off the mixture screws.

    This cap would go there:

    You just shouldn't use it, because you'd have to remove it any time you'd want/need to adjust your mixture screws.

    you may actually want to use those covers after you have those mixtures set nicely.... ever try to remove a siezed mixture screw?
