    Hey everyone,

New to the forum. Just picked up an 82 xj 750 as a project bike. Unfortunately the motor is seized, seems to have been run dry. Carb is seized too, but that I think can be freed and rebuilt.

So it looks likeI need to do a motor swap. Any advice greatly appreciated.... 650 vs 750 vs 700.... Do they fit, which would be most reliable, easiest, etc...

I'll add a pic of he bike when I picked it up, once I get it formatted appropriately... Assuming I can get a working motor in there, I'm planning on going for a cafe, bobber, or street fighter build.

    Cheers all,
    Ry

Oh and I should mention this is my second bike, first was a 1980 cm400 I rebuilt and rode for a year bout three years ago. It needed tires, chain, tank cleaning, carb rebuild.... Most of the components (including tires) on the xj seem to be in working condition, just a bum motor/carb set...

    One more note:

I've found very little on the frames for the biikes, so I must admit I need to do a forum search, but one tidbit I saw somewhere is that the XJ900 motor was just a bored and stroked XJ750, true? If so, does that motor just swap right in too?

Thanks, just in the researching motors phase at this point. Looks like the 900 swaps in, but is hard to find, and I'm guessing the 700 swaps in too but requires a radiator-- and maybe a set of different carbs, haven't looked into that...
