I finaly got my 700 sorted out or so I think, I have about 500 miles on it so far and have noticed a rich smell to it. I am running 31 to 35 mpg. I noticed my jacket smells like raw or rich exhaust. I'm not sure what these bikes are runnning for milage? My old 650 I never bothered to realy look at it as I rode it hard all the time filled up at 100 miles, the 700 i get a fuel light on at around 45 to 50 miles on the tank and just put in 2.7 gallons in 84.7 miles. Now fuel in my area jumped to 4.499 a gallon anf I'm thinking I might need the good fuel milage.

The bike runs like a top little foggy when cold on the bottom end warmed up runs with the wind and rock solid power all the way up to 9k

You're running rich by about 25% too much. Gas mileage should be around 45mpg if your not just ragging the throttle all the time, but with regular riding should not drop below 40mpg. Have you done a plug chop?

I get 49-54mpg on the 550, and if I'm riding full-out, that will come down about 10mpg, no more. I've hit 60mpg on the XV750 on the highway, but it is a 2-carb twin V so a different animal.

In the UK its easier to convert into miles/litre as you gallon is smaller.

Last fill worked out at 10.37m/l UK gall equates to 4.546 therefore 47.14m/Gallon

Most of this was sensible driving, not pushing it on A roads + a few short bursts at 80mph on motorways.

not sure though what yamaha claim in sales literature though for 750?

Thinking if you have a 750 and I'm on a 700 we should be close. I'm going to dig in to them this week sometime.

Lots depends on the wind as well.

    But here's the app:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSt ... 98207&mt=8

It's called "Road Trip" in the apple App Store, there may be an android version as well.

It's one of the only apps I've actually bought, after using the free version for quite some time. Paid version is well worth it, I've been using it for my car for years, and my bike as well. The paid version allows multiple vehicles.

    It's awesome!

On the maxim x i normally hit reserve right around 90ish miles. I tend to take off from each light and generally do over 75mph on the freeway. Plus normally atleast one or two 5th gear w.o.t pulls. So getting around 38mpg will riding hard is pretty good in my mind.

3.4. Us gallons. I normally fill up and put like 2.6 in it. So im obviously not pushing it. I could probably get further if i slowed down and pushed my luck a little.

I'm getting about 31 in town and 35 on the road with my 700. But I'm still working on it. I was expecting about 45 on the road. If you figure it out, let me know, and so will I.

I've got a 86 Maxim XJ700. I've only been able to get 90 miles per TANK. I'm also wondering if my bike is running too rich as you can really smell the fuel.

I get in the high 30"s on my 700X running it easy. I'm jetted with 107.5 jets, one size over stock. I know it hurts my mileage but makes starting and running cold a lot easier. My biggest complaint is 100 miles and you better be close to a gas station.

Jetting slightly rich is OK and has some advantages but if the exhaust smells rich you're jetted too rich.

Just a side note: if jetted too lean the poor combustion can smell like a rich condition.

My 700 averages a solid 42 mpg. That's under all types of driving conditions i.e. interstates, back roads, city. On a ride trip last fall (mostly interstates), I averaged 47. I switch to reserve at about 105 miles. On a road trip, that's a good time to take a break. My butt is usually numb.
