Make Turn Signals Running Lights that Blink

My 83 XJ750 has turn signals that are off, and blink on when I push the button.

I saw a modern bike that has the turn signals on all the time like running lights. When he turns the signal on, it blinks off and on. This seems like it may be safer.

Is there an easy way to make it so the turn signals are on with the headlight and blink off and on when I want to turn?

    Thank you,
    Chris.

Of course it's possible, you just need to wire them up.
    BUT, you need three-wire blinkers.

Check your state laws. In PA, stop lights, tail lights and rear facing markers must be red. Turn signals can be yellow.

I think that's true pretty much everywhere. The front amber lights can be lit though.....

My wife rides an '83 750 Shadow. Another woman in the club rides an '83 750 Virago. Similar motorcycles.

The Shadow has a halogen headlamp and front running lamps. The Virago only has a conventional headlamp like the 650 Maxim. The difference in how visible the two motorcycles are is shocking.

Headlamp upgrade (even a sealed beam halogen from Walmart) and front running lights are well worth the effort and small money.

Has anybody actually used that Curt wiring gadget? Some of the reviews on Amazon (linked above) suggest it dims the lights a lot and recommend a 5 to 4 wire unit instead. I have wanted to do this to my bike for a long time and would love a confirmed and cheap means to do it. This looks great, if it actually works WELL. Or one of the 5/4 wire units if that will work better. I like being seen.

If you wire up front sockets which are 3 wire that will get you close to what you want.
8 watt running lights, 21 watt turn lights. You will only have the one brake light, and you would need the transistorized splitter for that.
I opted for the simplicity on my bike , no splitter, and found some red aftermarket lenses for sale on the internet.

I thought about doing this with LED running lights . LED's inside the TS housing, front and rear with almost no hit on the amps

Yes, this is why I posted. My friend Greg has running lights and when I look in my mirror, I see him so good. "The difference in how visible the two motorcycles are is shocking."

Not sure exactly what the lamps are like on a 750 Max.....

When I purchased replacement front turn signals for my 650 they came with sockets for the 2 filament lamp (1157) instead of the single filament (1156). They were perfectly interchangeable with the sockets from the stock lamps and I suspect are quite common.

I suggest you pull the socket out of the signal and head up to the auto parts store. It's quite likely they have the socket you need to do both running and signal lights. Then just run the extra wire to the tail light circuit, which is conveniently in the Headlamp with everything else.
