Assembling enigne case and Yamabond 4

    How thin of a film is applied? My manuals are mute on the subject.

    I'm actually using Hondabond 4 since it was locally available. My brief internet search indicated Yamabond 4 = Hondabond 4 = Threebond 1184.

    When I have used it for refitting cases, ... I squeeze a dab onto my fingertip and smear it along the mating surfaces of BOTH sides after wiping the surfaces perfectly clean with Carb Cleaner ... first, ... followed by a sanitizing wipe-down with Iso-pro Alcohol.

    Follow up question: Both the Yamaha manual and Clymer's are pretty clear about splitting the cases. They list the bolt tightening sequence for reassembly but I'd like to know if they are tightened to full spec on initial install or if tightened to some lower value first, then back to the 1st bolt to full spec and so on. I ask because one of these references states that for disassembly, to loosen all bolts 1/2 turn in sequence first before complete loosening. That, and it seems to be the install procedure for most mating parts with multiple fasteners.

    Always thinking I won't have to ever do it again, ...


    I wire brush all the Bolts.
    Apply Blue Locktite to each one.

    I run them all in ... in sequence ... hand-tight, ... with a Speed Handle.
    Then, ... I take my sweet time torquing them to specs, ... using my trusty CRAFTSMAN Torque-sensing Wrench ... pulling the Wrench 'til it clicks.
    Once.
    Again.
    Then, ... one more time!

    Torque to half spec first then go back and bring them to spec. Lubricate threads on anything that isn't getting anti-sieze or Loctite.

    Squirt the yamabond in the corner of a baggie, snip a tiny bit off the corner and use it like a cake decorator , stuff skins over fast, I only do one side. Clean it real well and heed what the book says about the oil passages around the bearings .
    Half tight then full tight. A cordless drill set to slip saves a lot of time. Mind the shift forks .
    Once It's down don't lift it , strings of sealer will be everywhere. I never use locktite on the cases
