well I got my paint scheme boiled down to two ideas, red on black background or red on silver, which one do you like better?

Red on silver seems to contrast better. Probably look better in the sun too. My $.02.

the red has a slight color changing effect (red/orange/yellow), the red on black just looks red at a distance, but the red on silver seems more defined, I think I'll go with the silver, bike isn't going to be painted totally this way, theres a two tone scheme going on it some how

It's a toss up for me. The red on black looks like snake skin (which maybe the idea your looking for?) and the red on silver looks different. I'm trying to picture the whole bike (tank, fenders, and side covers) with that combination and it don't do anything for me. It's deffinetly unique.

well decided to go another route  , after trying so many different combos I ended up picking the look of a solid color with some black accents, almost like a two tone scheme, but still a unique paint job  . You can see it in my XJ550 build, I only got the front headlight bezel done but you should get the idea.

    Depends on your goal!

The red on black is subtle and classy, while the red on silver is more eye catching and energetic!

I kinda lean to the red/black, but I am old.

in the second pic I painted first with a silver base then stretched "fish net stockings" over it and sprayed it with candy red, guess I've been watching too many bike shows
