I just got done grinding off the oil filter bolt.. what a pain in the ass. Old filter looked like it was made of rust. Replaced with a high flow filter from ebay, and a new bolt (also from ebay) with a much larger nut on it.. You'd think they would make it this way to begin with... :x

Anyway... The engine ran a lot smoother, with no loud valve rattle like before.
Man, what a difference! I'll have to remember to check it more often.

Now if only weather would cooperate...

I feel your pain. When I first got my RJ, I had to do the same thing and grind off the oil filter bolt. I ended up replacing the bolt and filter housing because they were both trashed! Glad to hear you are up and running.

You should have looked into/purchased a "spin-on upgrade kit". I see a gentlman on here sells them..... however I fab'ed my own, with a few extra frills. (When you machine them yourself..... cost isn't an issue)

I thought about getting the spin-on kit. It is a damn good idea... But I can always add that later. The new oil filter bolt is 17mm (I think) so it's much easier to back out.

What kind of filter would you use with the spin-on adapter? Any particular brand/model?

I'd love to get the spin on filter and I have a good friend that works in a machine shop. I am working on some drawings for him to work from.

If you have a design you'd be willing to share - I'd be very grateful
