So this weekend I'm going to sheboygan wisconsin on the bike its an 82 xj650 I live in the eau claire wi area the trip is about 300 miles out. I have to go to help my brother move into his new house so i figured I'd take the bikes since we finally have some nice weather up here. Now to my questions I'm woundering if there are any problem parts I should be worried about before I head out the bike is higher mileage I have owned it for two years. I have replace the plugs, brakes front and rear new hardware in the rear rebuilt the caliper in the front and stainless lines, I did go the whole nine yards on the carbs this winter also they tires and wheel bearings are new within the last 250 miles. Also I was woundering if there were any xj'ers on my route incase I run into trouble I will be traveling us highway 10 east to Oshkosh us 45 south to us 41 and then on to us 23 east all the way to sheboygan any imput would help to date my furthest ride was about 150 miles in a day never really getting more than an hour from home

Yeah it seems to run really good actually I'm just worried I bought it with 38000 on it for 200 bucks put a lot of elbow grease (and a fair amout of cash) to get it running. It now has 40945 miles as of tonight when I got home from work. And ps that map deal is kinda cool thanks

40,000 isn't too much I'm closing in on 63,000 and run a 300 mile each way ride from NH to NY and back 1-2 times a month. All I carry is the stock tool kit, a couple spare fuses, a cell phone, and my wallet. As long as the bike is all tuned up and in good shape you shouldn't have any problems.

I have been told your not suppose to plug motorcylce tire never really understood why but I'm guess some of you guys have done it? And they are the original coils and I was kind of worried about them. Should they be ok?

i ran a plug in my back tire most of last summer, changed it a few weeks ago.
if it comes to plugging a tire or pushing, i'am plugging it.
coils are going to act up when they get wet, same for the wires and caps so if it's ok now it'll make another few hundred miles.
don't carry new plugs, change them and carry 1 old one, you know it works

    +1 on Polock's comment
You shouldn't leave a plugged tire on, but if it means leaving the bike or pushing it....plug it.

    HD riders what others say.
i used the sticky rope kind, their easy and seem to work. if it came to taking the tire off to patch it, then i'd just put on a new tire. i rode almost all last summer with a plug from 1/2 tread to almost no tread then changed it this spring.

Yessir! I'm in Stevens Point, so you'll be going right by.

I'm heading to Green Bay to put a new temp sensor in my sisters car tomorrow, but should be back by sunday.

Give me a shout if you need a hand, My grandpa lives down in Oostburg so if you break down that way, i could help you im sure.

Throw some extra fuses in your bag as well, just in case.

    Have a safe trip!

    Chris

Edit - number would probably help, eh?

    715-413-1208 - feel free to text/call
