    Hi All,

Two weeks ago I was pushing crap around my garage and needed to move my old '82 Seca 650 to get at something. Well, I got to thinking, the next thing I knew the carbs were rebuilt and it was registered...

I am in need of new tires, the old Metzlers have date codes that bring back memories of President Clinton's first term. They have plenty of tread, but I don't think I can trust them. I have had several good looking old tires blow out on cars, don't want to consider this on a bike.

Anyways, to the questions. What is a good tire for the '82 Seca 650?

I am not looking for long tread life, just a good sticky tire that will give me some traction in the occasion rain. This bike is a weekend toy, so rain traction is not on the top of the wish list. I am considering the Avon Roadrider tire after reading a few reviews.

Last questions, what is the largest tire I can put on the front? The stock size is 3.25-19. I have a 3.5 Metzler Laser on it right now, and it fits. The actual tread diameter is 3.875", not 3.5" as the size would suggest. There is still a little bit of clearance where the fenders/forks are. The 3.5" roughly matches to 90/90-19.

Has anyone put a 100/90-19 on the front of a stock bike?

    Thanks,
    Tim in Mass

The 550 and 650 Secas have the same front fender, and I have a Dunlop D404 100/90-19 on the front of one of my 550s and it has no clearance issues.

I'm running Avon RoadRiders on my other Seca 550 and they are quite excellent tires, very sticky.

    bigfitz52,

Thanks for the reply. Your post about the Avons got me pushed in that direction.

Another questions for everyone, does anyone have an Avon Roadrider in the size of 100/90-19 that can take a measurement for me? Even though tires are marked with a size, they are not always exactly as stated. Take my Metzler Laser, that comes in larger than it was written on the sidewall.

I would like to go with the 100/90-19 in the Avon, but it still may be too wide... A real world measurement would help. I would hate to mount a tire, only to have clearance issures...

    Thanks again,
    Tim in Mass
