A friend stopped over today on a V-Rod Muscle he was taking for a test ride. Let's just say this isn't your typical Harley. This thing has some serious grunt. I was impressed.

They are a nice machine. It's a shame that HD hasn't done more with that engine. They sure spent plenty of $$$ developing it (I don't remember how much HD paid Porsche for the work they did).

It would not surprise me to see in the near future, with the possibility of stricter EPA requirements for HD to consider putting this engine in other platforms such as their touring line.

Maybe, but they are working on water cooled heads for the twin-cam, so I don't think it's part of their plans.

They are nice bikes for sure. I think the style appeals more to the people that drive jap bikes. I think they are neat but just like all the harleys to expensive.

By far the best engine Harley has ever had. The dealers can hardly sell them though. The traditional Harley riders won't touch anything with water cooling. Why waste your time designing a cutting edge engine when you can get by with 1950's technology and as long as the engine can make lots of noise, it doesn't need any power.

Looks like it's styled after the bad dog Yamaha V-Max.

LOOK wise that is the harley I'd buy if I could $$ (I like some of the limited edition/anniversary paint schemes) - Only thing I don't like is the FAR forward controls - I'm 6' with 31ish inseam and everytime I've test sat on one the controls felt so far away.
Maybe I just got used the just barely bent knees on my maxim.

I also think when I sat on a V-Max it wasn't as comfortable as desires - expensive as well :(

    Bob,

Here's the model you should look for, the "Street Rod". Voted one of the best used bikes:

    http://www.cycleworld.com/2012/11/20/ha ... sed-bikes/

Made in 2006/07 that came with Mid Controls. I've been trying to get my Brother-in-Law to upgrade from his Harley Nightster, and it would be the ONLY Harley I would consider buying.

Pretty, but way overpriced. Why waste the money on a Harley when you can buy a new Bolt for half the price and get a far better machine?

Harleys are like Caddies; status symbol ride, nothing more. Anyone who sees me KNOWS I'm not out to impress anyone, so I ride what impresses me. ^_^

I like the bolt look - Any feed back from XJ owners about riding/owning one? Other than being production bobber style...

Rather odd that they made a mid-control model for only 2 years. Unless it wasn't really that comfortable... apparently low mpg and small tank as well

    Waste of money.
All about looks and not about user friendliness
    Fuction over form.
    Expensive imported parts.

Should be badged as a Porsche and sold world-wide.

Should be punched out to 1,400 CC's as well
