Finally got the luggage rack mounted. I can't decide if I like it or not! So I figured I'd turn to the XJ community for some opinions. Its a convertable rack, it allows for a single rider or slides back to allow for 2up riding. Also has a removeable "suitcase" Please let me know what you guys thing, which position looks best or if I should sell/scrap it!

I'd keep it - Once you sell it, you'll probably regret it.

I'd set it up for 2up with trunk but find some way to easily remove trunk if you don't like it for everyday use (wingnuts or something similar).

Going for a day long ride 2up the trunk will come in handy (drinks, suntan, etc) or taking your lunch with you to work! :)

Or ship it to my house and I'll hold onto for when I eventually get my "parts" bike running again.

The luggage rack "clips" on to speak. To has a locking clip and removes with a push button

Thank Jchalo, It's not a custom job. Although If you're skilled enough it wouldn't be too hard to replicate. If I take it off again I'll break down the peices and measure them for you. I really think the design is genious on how it "slides" back to allow the second rider by just moving the thumb screw.

I think it is hideous and you should trash it. Send it to me and I'll get it to a recycler ...

Would that recycler's name happen to be "Mike"?

This slide-in-slide-out luggage-rack-back-rest combo is a great idea, the only flaw is the backrest is a bit too wide to meet my sense of aesthetics.

I'm sure it would be very handy though. I have the same on my 1983 non-running XJ750, and I don't think I would sell it!

Keep it. I pulled one from an xv750 I bought. Called a bagman. I use it every day I ride. mine also has the adjustable back rest.

I like it! But maybe without the small suitcase. Several years ago, after searching for one, I bought something similar and had to modify an extra rear grab bar to install. My backrest is a little taller, but I use the rack all the time...and did tonight...usually on 'milk rides' to the store. I lost one of the knobs, that releases to adjust/slide, but it works fine with one....and I use a soft, red, Molson cooler/case with a cargo net. I think it looks a little 'rat tougher', the red adds some visibility and the cooler helps keeps my cold stuff cold.

I also picked up the matching 3 hard bag system made for the seca...they look good in my basement....
