Hello, I purchased a 1980 Yamaha Maxim-I in 1980. I put 20k miles on it before parking it in the back of my garage in 1988. Recently, I decided to try and restore it. Thus my search for parts. I have an original repair manual and plenty of time. I look forward to entertaining you with my requests for info in the future. If I can be of help, please let me know?

    Bill

Welcome! You certainly stumbled into the right place. Len (user name Chacal) is the resident parts guy (he runs xj4ever) and is probably the best source for xj parts around.

A couple of housekeeping things for you.

first, where are you at in Maryland? I might be close to you, and some others probably are. Always willing to make a trip and help if needed.

Second, add your bike to your signature (under "my account')... Makes it much easier when technical model specific help is required.

third, these are some things to look at before you even think of riding. The rear brakes have a tendancy to de-laminate on bikes that have sat which can cause your rear wheel to lock up. your front brake hoses and tires are ancient (from their lifespan anyway) they need replaced. Lastly, have you done a compression test on the motor and does it turn over? You don't want to start work if the power plant is no good.

    fourth, welcome again!

xj4ever (logo in the upper right corner) has all the parts you want/need and some you didn't know about.

I see you're in the People's Republic of MD as well. Where abouts?

    Hi Bill,

Nice to meet you and welcome to our forum! You'll likely find what you need to know here but it would help if you listed what kind of Maxim you have and what you are having problems with. If you haven't tried to start it yet, there are some good things to do first. Since it's been sitting a long time there are issues to know about. I would ask here http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewforum/f=4.html before you try to start it and there are those much more knowledgable than me to answer your questions.

This forum you posted in is the one where you look to sell or buy needed used parts.

To find what new parts you may need; go here: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewforum/f=23.html and scroll down to "XJ MAXIM, SECA, AND TURBO PARTS CATALOG" and there is reading and parts enough to keep you sated awhile.

Have good fun with your restoration, it's worth it.

    Gary
